“Building a home is one of the most significant investments a family can make. My role is to ensure the process feels clear, considered, and expertly managed from start to finish. I’m proud to continue a Shacklock family tradition that began on Holzer Street, Sandringham, more than a century ago.”
“From my great grandfather’s craftsmanship, to my grandfather’s precision, to my father’s legal discipline, Shacklock Homes is built on those values, and every home we deliver reflects them.”

Our Heritage
Four generations
of Bayside heritage
The Shacklock family's connection to Melbourne's Bayside spans more than a century, beginning on Holzer Street in Sandringham, where generations of the family lived and worked. From building and precision toolmaking to law and residential construction, each generation has contributed to a family history grounded in the local community.
c.1887–1925
Edward Christopher Shacklock
Builder — Holzer Street, Sandringham
Edward was a local builder whose work contributed to the early development of Bayside. His connection to the area established a family association with residential building that continues through Andrew today.
1908–2004
Arthur Shacklock
Tool Maker — Holzer Street, Sandringham
Arthur continued the family's connection to Bayside through his work as a toolmaker. His profession required precision, technical knowledge and attention to detail, qualities that remain important to the family's story.
1943–Present
Peter Shacklock
Lawyer — Holzer Street, Sandringham
Peter established his career in law, bringing a different professional perspective to the Shacklock family. His emphasis on contracts, compliance and clear documentation has influenced Andrew's approach to managing residential building projects.
2000s–Present

Frequently Asked Questions
Your questions answered
Whether you're planning a new home, renovation or extension, it's natural to have questions along the way. We've answered some of the most common ones about planning, contracts and construction to help you better understand what to expect when working with Shacklock.
Planning & Pre-construction
Yes. If you don't already have plans, we can arrange design, documentation and permits through trusted building designers and consultants Andrew has worked with for over 20 years. Involving us at this early stage allows potential changes to be considered before construction begins, helping to avoid unnecessary costs and delays.
If you already have plans and permits, we can move straight into pricing and scheduling. We'll first undertake a buildability review to identify any potential issues before construction begins, helping to avoid unnecessary costs and delays.
A buildability review assesses your plans to identify potential structural, access and compliance issues before construction begins. It helps determine whether the design can be built as intended, identifying potential challenges early to reduce unexpected costs, delays and variations.
Timing & Contracts
Andrew will provide a realistic timeframe from the outset, with a clear explanation of what it is based on.
Yes. Every project is undertaken using an MBAV fixed-price contract. Andrew has worked exclusively with fixed-price contracts since 2006.
Every quote includes a detailed breakdown of individual trades, costs and inclusions, so you can clearly understand what's involved before committing to the build. This transparency also makes it easier to compare quotations and identify differences in scope, specifications and allowances.
Construction & Quality
Shacklock typically undertakes around three to five large homes a year, allowing Andrew to remain personally involved throughout every build. By limiting the number of active projects, he can maintain a hands-on presence on site, oversee workmanship and give each project the attention it deserves.
In most cases, we recommend moving out during construction. Renovations can involve dust, noise, interruptions to essential services and exposed structures, making it difficult to maintain a safe and healthy living environment, particularly for families with children. For smaller, well-separated projects, staying in your home may be possible. Andrew will assess your specific circumstances and provide clear advice during the initial site visit.
By maintaining a hands-on approach throughout construction. Taking on a limited number of projects allows Andrew to be on site most days, personally overseeing workmanship and ensuring attention to detail at every stage. This includes the elements you won't see in the finished home, with thorough inspections extending beyond the visible finishes.
Let’s build something worthwhile.
If your drawings are finished, send them through and we'll price them. If they aren't, that's the better call. Get in touch before the design is locked.
